A set of masking stencils for models of the Phantom II in the B, C, D and J versions. As what it is meant for, the name names the Esci and Italeri kits.
The Phantom II is a two-seat twin-engine fighter that served with the US Navy and Air Force and later with a number of further operators. The B and J versions flew from the decks of aircraft carriers, the C and D versions with the air force. You can recognize the machine at first glance by the cranked wing tips angled upwards and by the horizontal tail surfaces drooped downwards. The cockpit is long, two-seat and divided into several parts, so there are more frames around the glazing here than on a single-seat machine and masking them by hand drags on.
A pre-cut stencil replaces tape cut on the knee. The width of the frames comes out the same on both sides of the cockpit, the edge stays straight and no blade has to be run over the clear part, where it would leave a scratch.
First wash and degrease the part; on a greasy surface a mask does not hold. Apply the stencils before spraying and press the edges down with a blunt tip. Apply the paint square to the surface and in thin coats, so that it does not get under the edge. On a long two-seat cockpit work in sections and keep checking whether any of the frames has lifted. Take the masks off while the coat has not yet fully cured.
The package contains masking stencils. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
