1:48 F-4C/D Phantom II - canopy mask Hobby 2000 is a set of cut stencils for the frames of the tandem canopy and the windscreen of the Phantom in the C and D versions.
Responsibility details are not available.
Above the cockpit the Phantom has three separate clear assemblies: a fixed windscreen and two hinged sections over the front and the rear seat. Each has framing of its own, and the frames are moreover wide and sharply bounded, so they are very conspicuous on a finished model. The set of stencils defines their outline in forty-eighth scale and saves the laborious piecing of tape into curves, which on this type always takes disproportionately long.
The Phantom came about originally for the navy, but it proved so capable that the US Air Force took it over as well. The F-4C version was the first the air force introduced in larger numbers and brought, among other things, a refueling system of its own and controls in the rear cockpit too. The following F-4D received revised equipment for a more accurate use of bomb and guided armament. Both types carried the main weight of the fighting over Southeast Asia and together created the image most modelers associate with the Phantom.
The most frequent trouble is not the frames themselves but the transition between the canopy and the spine of the fuselage, where the two surfaces never quite seat together. Try the clear parts dry, therefore, and deal with any gap before painting. Then lay the stencils from the rear section forward, so that you keep control over how the individual pieces follow one another, and let the paint dry thoroughly between coats.
