Aires 1:48 F-4J Phantom II (early v.) cockpit set is a resin cockpit set for the model of the American carrier version of the Phantom in its early form, 1:48 scale.

On a model in 1:48 scale the cockpit is the most closely watched interior space — with the canopy slid back, practically everything is visible. This cast resin set replaces the cockpit tub and its equipment with castings that render the instruments, the side consoles and the structural details finely, where injected plastic manages only the broader strokes. The early version designation matters: the equipment of the Phantom cockpit changed over its service life, so the set corresponds to a particular period, not to the whole series. The manufacturer is Aires, a Czech brand of resin details. It is not an aircraft kit but an accessory for one.
The F-4J Phantom II was the carrier version of the two-seat multirole aircraft operated by the US Navy. The crew consisted of a pilot and a weapon systems officer seated one behind the other, which on a model means two separate and differently equipped cockpits. The machine was twin-engine, with its characteristic cranked wing and anhedral tailplanes. The early machines of this version differed from the later ones in details of equipment, including the layout of the instruments.
First wash the mold release agent off the castings and let them dry thoroughly. Dry-fit the cockpit tub and sand the inner walls of the fuselage out step by step until the halves close without pressure — resin forgives little and an overstressed fuselage shows at once. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Start the painting with a primer, then the base shade of the cockpit, a dark wash in the recesses and fine dry brushing of the edges. The instrument panels stand out when a drop of clear gloss varnish is placed in the recesses of the instruments to imitate the glass. Bend the seat belts softly so that they look loose.
This is an accessory for modelers, not a model in its own right. It is supplied unpainted; paints, glue and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
