This is a masking set, not a model of an aircraft. The package contains pre-cut self-adhesive masks of Japanese kabuki paper (washi) in 1:48 scale, intended for building the night fighter versions F-82F and F-82G Twin Mustang. Kabuki paper holds its shape, follows slightly convex areas well and leaves no adhesive on the finish once it is removed. The grade of the set is, according to the manufacturer's designation, BASIC, that is the basic extent of the range. The particular list of masks is given in the instructions in the package.
The Twin Mustang is an unusually laborious subject to mask: it has two fuselages and with them twice the glazing, framing and landing gear wheels of an ordinary single-engine fighter. Cutting the frames of both canopies out of tape by hand is tedious, and an asymmetrical mistake is immediately visible on a twin-fuselage aircraft. Cut masks shorten this part of the build to sticking the pieces on according to the shape of the frames and ensure that both cockpits look the same.
Stick the masks onto a clean, degreased and dry clear part. Press the edges down with a toothpick or a wooden skewer, so that paint does not run under them. With framing it is worth spraying the interior color first and only then the external shade, as the transition on the frame then looks convincing. Apply the paint in thin coats; a heavy coat creates a step that peels once the mask is taken off. Take the mask off while the finish is still fresh, with tweezers and a pull at an angle. Remove any adhesive residue that arises with a dry cloth, not with an aggressive solvent.
The set does not contain the model, paints or glue. Before buying, check that the masks match the kit you are building.
