An injection-molded plastic kit of the Vought F4U-1D Corsair carrier fighter in 1:48 scale from the manufacturer Hobby Boss. For single-engine aircraft of the Second World War, 1:48 scale is the most popular format: the model is big enough for a worked-up cockpit and for stores, and still fits into an ordinary display case. Thanks to the inverted gull wing the Corsair is one of the most recognizable aircraft of its day, so it also works well as a single piece.
The Vought F4U Corsair was an American carrier fighter with a massive radial engine and the characteristic inverted gull wing, which made it possible to use a large propeller and at the same time shorten the landing gear legs. The F4U-1D version was one of the later configurations of the dash-one series: it had a raised canopy with better visibility, an armament of six 12.7 mm machine guns in the wing, and pylons for drop tanks and unguided rockets, so it was also used for attacks on ground targets. Corsairs served from the decks of ships and from land bases and remained in service long after the end of the Second World War.
Finish and paint the cockpit before closing the fuselage and consider nose weight right away. The inverted gull wing is the most sensitive place in the build: check the angles of both bends dry from the front and from above, because any asymmetry is immediately visible on the finished model. Assemble the engine and its cowling separately and fit them only after painting, otherwise you will not get inside. Use thin cement on the plastic, knock the seams down by sanding and restore any lost panel lines. Apply a primer before painting. Spray the uniform dark naval shade in thin coats and lighten the areas inside the panels slightly, so that the model does not look flat. Apply a gloss clear coat under the decals and knock it back once dry. Leave the propeller, the landing gear legs and the stores until the end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
