A photo-etched replacement part for the nose landing gear bay door for a model of the F/A-18F carrier fighter in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F/A-18F is a two-seat carrier multirole fighter of the US Navy, derived from a smaller single-seat predecessor. The nose landing gear of a carrier aircraft is considerably more robust than on land-based machines, because it takes the pull of the catapult. Its bay and its doors stay uncovered on a model standing on its wheels and are among the places a viewer looks at first.
A photo-etched part for the nose landing gear bay door in 1:48 scale. Etching allows a thickness that an injection-molded plastic part cannot reach, so the edge of the door looks sharp and does not look like a piece of plastic even from close up. The extent of the delivery, and which kit the part is cut for, are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
The part is held by thin tabs. Cut them through with a sharp blade on a hard surface, not by snapping them off, or the sheet will ripple. Form the bends in a bending tool or between two blades, so that the edge is straight and sharp. It is glued with superglue applied in a negligible amount, best with the point of a pin; any excess is pressed out from under the sheet and runs into the surroundings. Degrease the metal before painting and use a primer meant for metal, because on bare sheet the finish is easily rubbed off during handling.
It suits builders who want to make the uncovered parts of the landing gear more accurate, and it assumes basic experience with working with photo-etch.
The kit of the aircraft, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
