Injection-molded plastic kit of the British Fairey Firefly Mk.1 carrier-based fighter and reconnaissance aircraft in 1:48 scale from Trumpeter. The box contains parts in gray plastic, clear plastic for the cockpit glazing and a decal sheet; we recommend checking the exact contents and the number of schemes on the sheet in the box.
The Firefly was a British two-seat carrier-based aircraft of the Fleet Air Arm of the World War II period, which served as a fighter and as a reconnaissance machine. It was developed by Fairey Aviation, powered by a Rolls-Royce Griffon V12 engine, and its armament consisted of four 20 mm Hispano cannon in the wings, supplemented by external stores for bombs or unguided rockets. Its characteristic features were folding wings for stowage on an aircraft carrier and the tandem arrangement of the pilot and the observer. The type also saw action after the war, among other places in Korea.
Work up and paint the cockpit in detail before closing the fuselage, because once it is glued there is no more access to the tandem interior. Cover the glazing with masks so that the frames stay sharp, and glue the clear parts only after painting. Use a thin liquid plastic cement on the joints, treat the surface with a primer and apply the shades with an airbrush. Leave the external stores and any folding of the wings to the end of the build.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
