The Fairey Fulmar Mk.I in 1:48 scale is a plastic kit of the British two-seat carrier fighter from Trumpeter. The Fulmar was among the mainstays of British naval aviation in the first years of the war.

The Mk.I version is the first production one, that is the early form of the type; the later Mk.II is a separate item and differs in engine and details, so watch the variant designation when choosing.
The Fairey Fulmar was a two-seat carrier fighter of the British Fleet Air Arm, derived from the design of a light bomber. The second man in the cockpit served as navigator, which over the open sea with no landmarks was essential, but it also meant a heavier and less agile aircraft than its single-seat opponents. The Mk.I version was powered by a Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 and its armament consisted of eight 7.7 mm machine guns in the wing. The Fulmar entered service in 1940 and proved itself above all in the Mediterranean protecting the convoys to Malta and later over the Indian Ocean; in the number of kills it was among the most successful types of British naval aviation.
The long glazed cockpit is the dominant feature of this type, so it pays to spend time on the interior of both stations and to mask the frames with tape or masks instead of drawing them in by hand. Dry fit the fuselage, fill the seams on the belly and sand them. Painting goes the traditional way of British naval aviation: dark upper camouflage and a light lower surface, with the transition sprayed softly and without a template. Apply the decals onto a gloss ground and even the model out with a matte coat at the end. Folded wings and an open cockpit are rewarding ways to give the model life.
