Xtradecal 1:48 Fleet Air Arm Fairey Swordfish Mk.I 1938-39 is a decal sheet in 1:48 scale with the markings of pre-war machines of the Fleet Air Arm.
Responsibility details are not available.
A sheet of waterslide decals from the British manufacturer Xtradecal in 1:48 scale, focused on the Fairey Swordfish Mk.I torpedo biplane in service with the Fleet Air Arm in 1938 and 1939. It is an accessory for a kit. How many schemes the sheet carries and which individual machines it covers is not given by the name.
The Fairey Swordfish was a British carrier-borne torpedo and reconnaissance biplane of mixed construction with fabric covering, powered by the Bristol Pegasus radial engine. It appeared in Fleet Air Arm service in the mid-1930s and, despite its seemingly outdated look, stayed in operational use throughout the war. The period covered by the sheet still falls in the pre-war years, when the machines of the Fleet Air Arm wore more conspicuous color distinctions than the later wartime camouflage.
A biplane sets a trap for the decal work: once the upper wing, the struts and the bracing are in place, you simply cannot reach many of the surfaces. Lay the work out in advance, therefore, and apply the markings for the upper wing, and possibly for the spine of the fuselage, while the subassemblies are still separate. Count on the ribbed fabric covering as well: a decal across a rib needs a softener and time to drop into the hollows without tearing. Let it dry untouched and only then join the assembly up.
This is a modeling accessory, a decal sheet. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
