An accessory pilot's seat for the FM-2 Wildcat aircraft in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard. It replaces the seat from the box on a finished kit; an aircraft model is not included in the package.
Responsibility details are not available.
The seat is the most visible thing right after the instrument panel and at the same time one of the parts that in the box tend to be molded in simplified form, with thick walls and without lightening holes. This Eduard item handles precisely that, for the FM-2 Wildcat aircraft. It is a targeted and simple modification for modelers who do not want to rework the whole cockpit but would like the most conspicuous part to look convincing. The manufacturer also lists a set for the whole cockpit in the same line, if you want to go further.
The FM-2 Wildcat is a late version of the Wildcat carrier fighter, built for the US Navy by the Eastern Aircraft division of General Motors. It differed from the earlier machines in its lighter structure, a more powerful Wright radial engine and a taller fin. It flew mainly from escort carriers. The seats of American carrier machines of that period had the characteristic shape of a shell with cutouts and were completed by a system of straps, which on a model is usually handled separately.
Separate the part with a sharp knife, sand the face after cutting and, before painting, degrease it and spray it with a base coat. Use super glue to join it. It is practical to paint the seat off the model, with a darker wash into the corners and discreet emphasis on the edges, and to fit it only at the end. If you add belts, fit them before gluing it into the cockpit, otherwise they are hard to reach in the narrow space.
