The French steel helmet introduced in 1915 belonged among the first series-produced helmets of modern armies. Its recognition features are the low crest over the crown and the riveted brim led all the way around, which sets the shape apart from the British and German helmets of that time. The helmet was used throughout the First World War and in modified forms it stayed in service between the wars as well; a number of other armies took it over too. For exactly that reason it suits figures from various periods, not only the year 1916.
Cut the casting off the casting block with a fine-toothed saw and level the cut. Before painting, wash it in lukewarm water with a detergent – residues of the release agent from the mold are a frequent cause of flaking paint on small parts. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). If you are replacing another piece of headgear with the helmet, first level the crown of the figure's head. Painting: a thin filler, a matte base paint, a gentle lightening of the crest and the brim with a dry brush and finally a wash flowed into the shadows. The strap under the chin can be suggested with a thin strip of foil or a stroke of a fine brush.
