1:48 Fw-190A-6 landing flaps is a photo-etched set by Eduard that replaces the plastic landing flaps of the German fighter Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-6.
Responsibility details are not available.
Landing flaps are among the places where a plastic casting is always too thick. This photo-etched set by Eduard replaces them with an assembly of parts from thin metal sheet, including the inner structure that is revealed once the flaps are lowered. It is intended for a model of the Focke-Wulf Fw 190A-6 in 1:48 scale and is fitted into a part-built kit. Eduard makes photo-etch in Obrnice near Most.
The Fw 190A-6 entered production in 1943 as a response to the strengthening raids of the Allied formations. The wing received a reinforced structure and modified bays, so that it could carry four rapid-fire cannon of 20 mm caliber in place of the earlier weaker armament in the outer positions. The power unit remained an air-cooled two-row radial BMW engine. It was precisely the A-6 version that often appeared with units deployed against four-engined bombers over the Reich and that became the basis for a number of further modifications.
First cut the flaps out of the plastic wing and thin the trailing edge down by sanding from the inside. Separate the parts from the fret with a scalpel against a hard surface, not with nippers. The bends will be managed by a bending tool or by a sharp blade pressed against a ruler. Glue the assembly together in drops of thin cyanoacrylate glue, and fix the flaps in place only after varnishing, so that they keep clean edges.
