1:48 GBU-54 Thermally Protected is a resin set of a guided bomb in the thermally protected version, intended as underwing armament for aircraft models in 1:48 scale.

This is not an aircraft kit but an armament accessory. The resin castings replace the simplified plastic bombs from a base kit or add them where the box lacks them. The Eduard brand from Obrnice near Most casts this range with crisp fin edges and legible surface detail that is lost on injection-molded plastic at this scale. The words thermally protected in the name refer to the variant with a thermally protected casing, as the manufacturer's catalog lists it.
The GBU-54 belongs to the family of American guided bombs in which a guidance and control kit is fitted to a conventional aerial bomb. It combines satellite and inertial guidance with a laser sensor, so it can hit a target that is moving. The thermally protected version has a modification of the casing for service in an environment where there is a raised risk of heating, typically on carrier-based aircraft. It has been in service since the turn of the first and second decade of this century and is carried by a wide range of tactical machines.
Wash the resin in warm water with dish soap before painting, as mold release agent clings to the parts. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and level the surface on sandpaper laid on a board, so that the bomb seats squarely on the pylon. Start the painting with a primer, then the base shade and only at the end the colored bands and the lettering, for which narrow masking tape is worth using. The fins are thin and will not take coarse sanding. Deal with the mounting at the very end, so that the set does not break off while the model is handled.
This is an accessory, not a model in its own right. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
