An accessory from Red Fox Studio for the kit from Tamiya in 1:48 scale. These are 3D printed cockpit panels rendered in color on decal paper, which transfer onto the model just like an ordinary decal. The set is not an aircraft kit and does not replace one; it serves to make the instrument panel and the side consoles in the cockpit look convincing even without hand painting the dial faces.
The F-14D is the last production version of the Tomcat carrier-based fighter, with a crew of two seated in tandem. Compared with the older versions it differs in upgraded avionics, which also showed in the layout of the cockpit: both the pilot instrument panel and the rear station have a different arrangement from the earlier versions. That is precisely why panels cannot be swapped between individual versions of the Tomcat and why it is advisable to choose a set matching the particular version.
Proceed as with a decal, not as with a resin part. First even out the base in the cockpit with a dark color and coat it with gloss clear so that the decal does not go matte and silvered bubbles do not form. Cut the panel out carefully as close to the outline as possible, soak it briefly in lukewarm water and let it rest until it releases from the backing on its own. Dose the decal softener sparingly, because the printed layer is colored and too aggressive a product could attack it. Once dry, fix it with matte clear coat and, if you wish, pick out the edges with a dry brush.
This is an accessory, not a model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Before buying, check that the set matches the version and the kit you are building.
