Kit of the carrier fighter Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat, Battle of Midway in 1:48 scale from Academy.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the Grumman F4F-4 Wildcat carrier fighter in 1:48 scale from Academy. It is a modern tooling in which the wings can be built folded, as for stowage on deck, or spread into the flight position. The boxing is themed on the Battle of Midway. The exact contents, whether photo-etched parts, masks or the number of schemes, are not stated here. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
The Grumman F4F Wildcat was the main carrier fighter of the US Navy and the Marine Corps in the first half of the Pacific War. The F4F-4 version introduced folding wings for economical operation on carriers and heavier armament of six machine guns. Wildcats played a key part in the battles of the Coral Sea and Midway in 1942; although they were neither as fast nor as agile as the Japanese Zero, their toughness and the tactics of their pilots let them stand up to the Japanese aircraft.
Decide in advance whether you will build the wings folded or spread. Cut the parts away with a sprue cutter and clean them with a fine file, and use thin cement for plastic. The cockpit and the glazed canopy are clearly visible, so it pays to paint the interior thoroughly and to cover the canopy with masks. For the blue-gray US Navy schemes an airbrush works well; do not forget a gentle accent on the panel lines.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
