1:48 Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat US national insignia with a red outline is an Eduard masking set for spraying the American national insignia of a short period of 1943.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a masking set, not an aircraft model and not decals either. The pre-cut masks define the shape of the American national insignia so that it can be sprayed directly onto the surface of a model. Against a decal, a sprayed insignia has one substantial advantage: it makes no step on the surface, it has no glossy film along the edge and there is no risk that it will fail to settle over a riveted or paneled surface. On the large areas of the wing and the fuselage, where the insignia is clearly visible, the difference is noticeable at first glance.
The insignia with a red outline is one of the shortest episodes in the history of American markings. The star in a circle completed with white bars at the sides received a red outline border in the summer of 1943, but after a few weeks that turned out to be risky because of confusion with Japanese markings and it was replaced by a blue outline. The combat debut of the Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat falls exactly into this window, a carrier fighter with the Pratt and Whitney R-2800 radial engine, which from 1943 gradually replaced the Wildcat and became the main carrier fighter type of the US Navy.
Spray the insignia onto a finished and fully cured basic coat. First lay down the white, after drying the blue and finally the red outline, or in the order given in the enclosed diagram. Press the mask down all around the perimeter with a soft tool and spray in thin coats from a perpendicular direction, so that the paint does not run under the edge. Take it off shortly after it has flashed off.
