This is an accessory set in cast resin in 1:72 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard, intended for a model of the Fokker D.VII fighter biplane in the OAW licensed version. The set is not a kit: it replaces the engine in a model you already have. Resin can capture sharp edges, fine pipework and the texture of a cast block considerably better than injection-molded plastic, and with an exposed engine that is decisive.
The Fokker D.VII was a fighter biplane of the end of the First World War, valued for its good handling at low speeds. It was also built under license, and the abbreviation OAW denotes one of the licensed works; machines from that production differ in details of the cowling and the surface finish. The Mercedes D.III engine was a liquid-cooled inline six-cylinder with upright cylinders, on which the cylinder heads and the exhaust manifold remained largely exposed. That is exactly why the engine area is the most prominent place on a model of this aircraft.
This is a resin casting, which is worked differently from plastic. First wash the parts in warm water with detergent to remove any mold release agent, otherwise the paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, not with pliers, because the material is brittle and cracks. Sanding resin creates dust that is harmful to health, so work with a respirator or sand wet. It is bonded exclusively with super glue; ordinary cement for plastic does not dissolve resin. Apply a primer before painting. The engine benefits from a dark wash in the recesses between the cylinders and a restrained dry brush in a metallic shade on the edges.
The set is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The model, glue, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
