A set of painting masks from MH models intended for spraying the German crosses onto a model of the twin-engine Heinkel He 111 bomber in the H-6 version, in 1:48 scale. The package contains painting masks, not parts of the model, decals or paints. The set is intended for ICM kits.
Spraying through a mask gives a result that is hard to achieve with a decal: the markings have no carrier film, no glossy rim and cannot silver. The paint sits directly on the camouflage, so the surface stays uniform even after matting and after weathering. The advantage shows mainly on the large areas of the fuselage and wings of the He 111, where an extensive decal would settle less well over riveting and panel joints.
The overwhelming majority of failures with masked markings come from paint running under the edge of the template. After applying it, therefore, press the whole perimeter of the mask down once more, for which a blunt stick, a toothpick with a dulled tip or a fingernail through a piece of paper is enough. Only then spray, and do so in several very thin coats. A heavy wet coat always gets under the edge, three dry ones do not. It also helps to make the first coat in the color of the base, that is, in the shade of the camouflage, because any penetration is thereby sealed off and the following coats then go onto a tight edge.
This is not a kit. The set contains painting masks only; the model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
