Hurricane aces of the Mediterranean and Africa, part 2, in 1:48 scale follow on from the first part and offer further markings for Hawker Hurricane models.
Responsibility details are not available.
The second part of the Print Scale decal series for the Hawker Hurricane fighter in 1:48 scale, focused on the Mediterranean and Africa. The sheet is a standalone product intended for a finished, painted model.
The Hurricane was older in construction than the all-metal fighters of its day: its fuselage was a lattice frame largely covered with fabric, which made repairs in the field easier. With the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine it served in both the fighter and the attack role, and in North Africa it was precisely its toughness that was valued. Machines deployed in the desert carried dust filters and finishes that faded and wore through quickly, so a model of a Hurricane from this theater looks unfinished without weathering.
If the markings are to look like part of the finish, the same wear has to pass over them as over the surrounding surface. The order is fixed: decals, drying, clear coat, and only then a wash and drybrushing. Anyone who applies pigments and washes earlier creates a bumpy surface under the film and the marking lifts. The clear coat also protects the thin film from the solvent in the wash. Take the paint chipping with a pencil or a sponge across the edges of the insignia as well, but sparingly: a worn marking is an effect, a frayed marking looks like a mistake.
