An injection-molded plastic kit of the Japanese licensed version of the French Salmson 2A2, known as the army type Otsu 1, in 1:48 scale from GasPatch Models. This variant represents the machines built in Japan by Kawasaki and carries Japanese national markings. The model combines fine injection-molded plastic, photo-etch and resin and usually comes with a jig for aligning the wings; check the exact package contents against the instructions. Paints and glue are not included in the package.
The French Salmson 2A2 was the most widespread reconnaissance aircraft of its class at the end of the First World War. After the war the Japanese firm Kawasaki obtained a license to build it and from the early 1920s produced machines for the Japanese army under the designation type Otsu 1. Roughly a thousand were built and served above all for reconnaissance and training. The Japanese version differed from the French machines mainly in its markings and in some details of equipment.
The kit is finely detailed; we recommend dry-fitting and careful bracing of the biplane, for which the enclosed jig helps with the geometry of the wings. Glue the plastic with liquid cement for plastic and the resin and photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate. We recommend an airbrush and a thin primer; finish the bracing wires only after painting. Watch out for the correct Japanese schemes and markings.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
