This brass photo-etched set from DEF Model is used to add detail to the plastic kit of the modern Japanese Type 10 tank by Tamiya in 1:48 scale. It is not a standalone tank kit but an accessory that replaces selected plastic parts with finer metal items. The basic set adds turret details, grilles and small parts that a plastic mold cannot reproduce at the right thickness.
The Type 10 is a modern third-generation Japanese main battle tank that is replacing older types in the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force. It features hydropneumatic suspension with adjustable ground clearance, composite armor and a 120 mm smoothbore gun. It was designed with the emphasis on low weight and mobility in broken terrain.
The photo-etched parts are separated with a sharp knife on a cutting mat and bent in a photo-etch bending tool or over a steel ruler. Cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) or two-part epoxy is suitable for bonding them to plastic. Degrease the parts before painting and treat the metal surface with primer so that the paint adheres better.
This is an accessory for a plastic model, not a standalone kit. The base Tamiya kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
