About product

Amodel 1:48 LaGG-3 (4th series) Soviet fighter

An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale from the Amodel brand. The model captures the early 4th production series of the Soviet LaGG-3 fighter. The kit is meant for more experienced modelers who will appreciate a period subject from the first years of the war.

The real subject

The LaGG-3 was a single-seat Soviet fighter from the design trio of Lavochkin, Gorbunov and Gudkov. Characteristic was the wooden structure of the airframe with a plywood skin, powered by a liquid-cooled Klimov V12 engine. The aircraft served from 1941 on the Eastern Front; the early series were marked by aerodynamic changes and by lightening of the structure.

Building and painting tips

Cut the small injection-molded parts off with a sharp knife and clean them up with a file, and glue the joints with liquid plastic cement. Apply a primer before painting, and finish the cockpit and the landing gear before closing the fuselage up. Masking and an airbrush will help with the typical Soviet camouflage; a final wash will bring out the panel lines.

Who the model is for

  • Collectors of the Soviet Air Force of the Second World War
  • Modelers with experience of short-run kits
  • Anyone interested in early fighters of the Eastern Front
  • Builders in 1:48 scale

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
