M10, photo-etched engine compartment grille 1:48 from the Czech maker Hauler replaces the blind plastic grille with a see-through photo-etched part with a real structure.
Responsibility details are not available.
A small but effective photo-etched set for a model of the American tank destroyer M10 in 1:48 scale. It replaces the cooling grille over the engine compartment, which a plastic kit deals with only by suggested relief. The set is cut for the Tamiya kit and it is an accessory, not a standalone model.
The M10 was an American tank destroyer built on the chassis of the Sherman medium tank, with a gun of 76.2 mm caliber in an open turret. It was deployed from 1943 in Italy as well as in northwestern Europe. The whole rear of the hull is visible from above on it, so the cooling grille is among the first things that draw attention on a finished model.
First sand the plastic relief of the grille away and level the area, so that the photo-etched part seats over its whole surface. Glue the part with cyanoacrylate applied around the perimeter, not in the middle; an excess of glue would seep between the ribs and blind them. Because the grille really is permeable once glued on, it pays to paint the area beneath it matte black or dark brown and to add a suggestion of depth. After painting use a dark wash to pick the structure out, and add a little dust and dry leaves of the kind that settled in the grilles on the real vehicles.
This is an accessory, not a standalone kit. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
