An aftermarket photo-etched set from the Czech maker Hauler for the M4A3 Sherman model in 1:48 scale. The set is cut for the Hobby Boss kit and holds metal parts replacing the plastic originals. It is an accessory, not a model.
The Sherman was built in several versions, which differed mainly in the power unit and the construction of the hull. The M4A3 had a welded hull and the Ford GAA gasoline V8, and it became the version the American army preferred for its own units. The differences between versions are not cosmetic: the hatches, the exhausts, the grilles over the engine compartment and the stowage of equipment are all in different places. Photo-etched sets are therefore made for a specific version and are not interchangeable between versions.
For working with photo-etch, have ready a sharp scalpel with a new blade, a hard glass or metal surface, tweezers with fine points and ideally a bender. Cut the parts off with pressure from the blade, never tear them out, or a burr will be drawn out at the joint. Try every part dry before gluing and mark on the drawing what you have already done. Degrease the metal, glue with super glue in drops and at the end spray a thin primer, so that the paint holds.
The set is an accessory for a kit. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
