1:48 F-14D Tomcat EXPERT masks is a New Ware masking set in the widest grade of the line for a model of the American carrier fighter in 1:48 scale. It serves for precise spraying while painting a model and does not contain the model itself.

Pre-cut self-adhesive masks for a model of the F-14D Tomcat carrier fighter in 1:48 scale. With New Ware the EXPERT grade is the widest version of the line: besides the main glazing it also masks further areas of the airframe where a sharp transition or an exact shape is needed. The masks are cut to fit the Tamiya 61118 kit, so all you have to do is set them in place and press them down.
The F-14 Tomcat was a two-seat carrier fighter with a variable-geometry wing, designed to defend the groups around aircraft carriers. The D version was the last and most capable production variant: it was given new engines, digital avionics and modernized equipment for precision strikes against ground targets. A characteristic feature of the whole family remained the wide flat center fuselage between the engine nacelles and the large bubble canopy, from which both crew had an excellent view.
The canopy on this subject is very large and runs over markedly curved surfaces; trimming by hand would end there with uneven, wavy frames. Besides the glazing, modern machines usually have a number of areas whose look depends on a sharp edge between shades, for example the dark anti-glare panel in front of the cockpit. That is exactly what the wider grades of masks are made for. The procedure: set the mask with tweezers, press it down thoroughly all the way round, spray thin coats straight from above and let it become tacky. A heavy coat of paint builds a ridge at the edge of the mask that stays visible even after it is lifted. Lift the masks off shortly after the paint has dried, drawing them at an angle across the edge.
