The extended version of the mask set for models of the late versions of the British fighter in 1:48 scale. Compared with the basic BASIC set it holds more masking elements; it is bought when you want to mask areas beyond the cockpit canopy itself as well. It is an aid for painting, not a kit and not an accessory part.
The basic set deals above all with the glazing. The extended version is aimed at the modeler who does not want to settle for finishing the rest of the model off with tape by eye. The advantage of machine-cut film is repeatability: the right and the left side come out alike, circular shapes are truly circular and there is nothing to trace. That tells above all where the transition between two colors takes place on a small area.
The commonest use of a masking ring is to separate the tire from the rim. Apply the ring to the rim, press it down and spray it over with the color of the rim; it is more practical to spray the tire first, because a dark shade is more easily covered over with a light one than the other way round. On small parts let the paint set thoroughly before you take the mask off, and remove it with tweezers by pulling along the surface, not straight up. The wheel then does not have to be finished off with a brush.
The package contains masking film only. The model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery.
