The third part of the decal series for British Phantoms in 1:48. Five aircraft of the FG.1 and FGR.2 versions from 1976 to 1987 from squadrons at Coningsby, Wildenrath and Wattisham.
Responsibility details are not available.
The British did not buy the Phantom as it was. They had domestic turbofan engines installed in it, which called for a wider lower fuselage and a different shape of intake, and they added avionics of their own. This produced two versions that were found in no other air force: the naval FG.1 and the multi-role FGR.2 for the land-based air force.
This sheet is the third part of an extensive series and picks five aircraft from the 1970s and 1980s. One squadron from Coningsby is represented by two aircraft, then there is a machine from Wildenrath that belonged to the British forces in Germany, and an aircraft of the operational conversion unit from Wattisham dated August 1987.
The period from 1976 to 1987 covers the change from glossy gray-green camouflage to the matte low-visibility finish, so the sheet lets you build two very different-looking models of the same type. Watch the national insignia: their size and intensity changed during this period and the individual options on the sheet differ in that respect.
The 1970s are represented by two aircraft from the same squadron, which makes it possible to build a pair in an identical finish differing only in the code letter.
Before applying the decals we recommend overcoating the surface with gloss clear varnish, otherwise the matte finish will undercut the decal and a visible frame of carrier film will be left around it.
