This item is not a kit of an aircraft but an accessory from the Czech brand Eduard. The package contains metal castings of the landing gear legs in bronze, which in a finished model replace the corresponding plastic parts from the base kit. The set therefore assumes that you already have a Phantom model in 1:48 scale or will obtain one separately.
Even in 1:48 scale the Phantom is a large and, by modeling standards, heavy model. Plastic landing gear legs bend under its weight in time, they crack at the glued joints, and on a build completed with a resin cockpit or metal parts the load is higher still. A bronze casting is rigid, it carries the weight without deforming and keeps the model in the right attitude for years. Metal also tolerates more slender shapes for the struts and links than can be safely molded in plastic, so besides strength it usually brings finer detail as well.
First free the castings of any casting gate remnants and sand the parting lines down lightly. The metal has to be degreased — a cloth with alcohol or isopropyl alcohol is enough — and only then glued. Cyanoacrylate glue suits a metal-to-plastic joint; for the most heavily loaded places a two-part epoxy is better. Before painting, apply a base coat intended for metal, otherwise the paint will not hold on the smooth surface and will rub off during handling. After that you proceed as usual: the base shade, a dark wash into the recesses and a fine emphasis of the edges.
The accessory is supplied unpainted and without a base kit. Glue, paints and other parts are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
