Pre-cut self-adhesive masks for the outer face of the glazing of the Bf 109G-6 kit from Tamiya in 1:48 scale. This is an accessory for painting; the package holds neither the model nor paints. The double-sided variant, with masks for the inner face of the glass as well, is a separate item.
The most valuable five minutes of the whole job come at the very end. Take the mask off once the last coat of varnish has dried through, but not after weeks, because the longer a mask sits, the worse the adhesive releases. Lift a corner with the tip of a scalpel, but from then on pull with tweezers, not with the blade. Peel the mask slowly and above all back over itself, that is at a shallow angle to the surface, not straight up. A straight pull is the easiest way to tear the paint off a frame edge as well. If the paint does lift at an edge, run a thin scalpel along the edge of the mask before peeling it off. Remains of adhesive on the glass are wiped away by a cotton swab lightly moistened with water; aggressive cleaners do not belong on a clear part, as they dull it. Fingerprints are hard to get off finished glass, so hold the model by the fuselage.
The Bf 109G-6 is the most numerous form of the German single-engine fighter, recognizable by the covers over the breeches of the fuselage guns ahead of the cockpit. The framing of the canopy is broken up and, with hand masking, is among the longest jobs of the whole build.
The kit and paints are not included in the package. The number of parts and the material of the film are not stated here.
