About product

The real subject

The Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6 was the most numerous version built of the German fighter, and photographs of it show at once how differently the main landing gear wheels could look. Both the tread pattern and the design of the hub differed, because the aircraft came from several makers and the equipment changed over the course of the war. That is exactly why replacement wheels pay off on this subject: they are conspicuous, and with the aircraft standing on its gear the viewer has them right at eye level.

What the set offers

These are replacement wheels in 1:48 scale, prepared for the Bf 109 G-6 kit from Tamiya. The number in the name distinguishes one of the two versions offered in this range, so you can choose the one that matches your subject. The contents of the package and the assembly procedure are described in the maker's instructions.

Building and painting tips

The parts are not polystyrene, so ordinary cement for plastic has no effect on them; use cyanoacrylate glue or else a two-part adhesive. Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the remainder carefully, so as not to damage the shape of the tread. Wash and degrease the wheels before painting and apply a primer. The hub is easy to paint if you mask the tire beforehand or paint it before the parts are glued together. If the tire is made with a flat spot, turn the flat spot toward the ground when gluing.

Who it is for

The set suits modelers who are building the Bf 109 G-6 from a particular photograph and want wheels with crisper detail than the boxed kit offers.

This is an addition to a kit that you buy separately. Paints, varnishes and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is prepared for the Bf 109 G-6 in 1:48 scale from Tamiya. On another kit the seating of the gear legs may differ.

They are two separate items in the same range for the same type of aircraft. Choose according to your subject, because the wheels of the Bf 109 differed from machine to machine.

Cyanoacrylate or a two-part adhesive. Ordinary cement for polystyrene has no effect on these parts.

First wash and degrease them and apply a primer. The hub is easier to paint if you mask the tire or paint the parts before they are glued together.
