1:48 Messerschmitt Bf-109K-4 is a pre-cut Eduard masking set for a model of the last production version of the Messerschmitt fighter in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
This is a masking set, not an aircraft model. The pre-cut self-adhesive masks are applied straight to the parts of a model and define the areas that are to stay free of paint. Most often that means the cockpit glazing, where the masks follow the shape of the individual panes and the frames then come out with a sharp edge. Masking by hand with tape on a canopy as divided as the late Messerschmitt's takes hours and the result is usually uneven; ready-made masks shorten that work to a few minutes. The complete make-up of the package is given on the box of the set.
The Bf 109K-4 is the last version of the whole family to reach production, deployed from the autumn of 1944. It was powered by the Daimler-Benz DB 605 engine in a late, higher-powered form, and its main weapon was a 30 mm engine cannon firing through the propeller hub, supplemented by a pair of machine guns in the cowling. The K version can be told by its tall wooden rudder, its relocated filler point and its modified main wheel covers. It was an attempt to unify a scattered production into a single standard at a time when it was already too late.
The surface has to be clean and degreased. Press a mask down with a soft tool all the way around its edge, so that paint does not run under it. Spray in thin coats, because a heavy coat creates a step at the edge. Take them off with tweezers at the moment the paint has become tacky, not after it has fully cured.
