A photo-etched set for a model of the Soviet transport helicopter Mi-4 in 1:48 scale. It adds detail to the model in a thickness that plastic cannot manage.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Mi-4 is a Soviet transport helicopter of the 1950s. It has a roomy cargo compartment in the rear of the fuselage with rear doors, a wheeled undercarriage and a four-blade main rotor. It served in military and civil forms and for many years was among the most widespread machines of its category in Eastern Europe, so modelers keep returning to it because of the varied range of operators and color schemes.
Photo-etched parts are etched out of thin metal sheet. The thickness of the material matches the scale substantially better than a plastic part from a kit, which is why photo-etching is used where a part should be really thin or cut right through. Which parts the set contains and where they belong is given by the manufacturer in the instructions; that is also where it says which kit the set is cut for.
Follow the instructions and start with what goes inside, while the fuselage is still open. Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface rather than with scissors, and hold them with fine-tipped tweezers. Make the bends in a photo-etch bending tool or along a steel ruler, and on curved parts form them around a cylindrical object. They are bonded with super glue applied with the tip of a toothpick. Before painting, wash and degrease the metal and apply a base coat, otherwise the paint will chip during the build.
The model of the helicopter, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
