A plastic kit of the Soviet transport helicopter Mil Mi-4 Hound in 1:48 scale from Trumpeter - a modern mold with photo-etched parts and a detailed interior.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet Mil Mi-4 transport helicopter (NATO reporting name Hound) in 1:48 scale from Trumpeter. It is a modern mold with a finely broken-up cockpit, engine and cargo compartment; the package is completed by photo-etched parts and decals for Soviet and Chinese machines. In 1:48 scale it is a sizeable model with a rotor about 43 cm across.
The Mi-4 was a Soviet multi-purpose helicopter of the early 1950s, created as an answer to the American machines used in the Korean War. In layout it resembled the American H-19, but it was larger and carried a higher useful load. A piston radial engine in the nose drove both the main and the tail rotor through a shaft; the cargo compartment with doors at the rear allowed troops and light equipment to be carried. It served in many armed forces including the Chinese, where it was built under license.
Finish the cockpit and the cargo compartment first; the interior will be visible through the glazing and the doors. Glue the photo-etched parts with super glue and the plastic with a thin modeling cement. Assemble the rotor head and the blades carefully, so that they sit level. Mask the cabin glazing. Bring out the metal and oil-stained surfaces of the engine with a wash and a fine dry brush; paint the large areas of the fuselage with an airbrush.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
