The MiG-21, under the NATO code name Fishbed, is one of the most widespread jet fighters of all. It served with dozens of countries and was built in many versions, which differed from each other in their landing gear wheels and tire patterns as well. Wheels tend to be a weak point in kits, because an injection-molded part allows neither fine relief nor realistic settling of the rubber under the weight of the aircraft.

The tires are worked as weighted, that is with a flat area resting on the ground, and the hub carries crisper detail than the corresponding plastic part. The set is fitted in place of the parts from the kit and calls for no intervention in the structure of the landing gear legs.
The parts are not polystyrene and ordinary modeling cement has no effect on them; use cyanoacrylate. Cut the excess material off a short way from the part with a sharp blade and sand the remainder with fine sanding paper. Before painting, wash the wheels in lukewarm soapy water and degrease them, otherwise the paint holds poorly. When gluing, make sure the flattening of the tire faces the ground and that the model stands straight; this is most reliably checked on a flat board before the glue sets.
For modelers who want to finish the landing gear of a completed aircraft in detail without having to modify the wheels laboriously. Before buying, compare the shape of the wheels with your kit, as the MiG-21 versions differ in this respect.
