Eduard 1:48 Mil Mi-17 SPACE is a set of pre-colored 3D decals for the cockpit of the Mi-17 transport helicopter in 1:48 scale. It is an add-on to a model, not a helicopter model.

The set of the SPACE line from the Czech manufacturer Eduard brings relief into the cockpit, but it is handled like a decal. The colors, the labels and the dials of the instruments are printed, so they are only lifted off with tweezers and the laborious painting of tiny details with a brush falls away. On a transport helicopter, where the pilots' compartment is full of instruments, panels and circuit breakers, that is an appreciable saving of time. The add-on is fitted into a plastic model of the Mi-17 in 1:48 scale under construction and does not replace the model itself.
The Mil Mi-17 is the export designation of the Mi-8MT helicopter, that is of the modernized version of the legendary Mi-8. The recognition marks are the pair of more powerful TV3-117 turboshaft engines and the tail rotor moved to the left side of the tail boom, while the older Mi-8T has it on the right. The machine is used to carry troops and materiel, to evacuate the wounded, for firefighting and rescue tasks and in armed versions for the support of ground forces as well. It is among the most widespread helicopters in the world and flies on every continent, including service in the Czech Republic and in Slovakia, so a model of the Mi-17 turns up in many local collections.
First even out the surface under the decal with gloss varnish, as a flat surface underneath holds air bubbles. With a sponge and detergent, wet only the backing paper, lift the element off with tweezers and set it into water-based glue. Do not use a decal softener or a setting solution: the chemistry will attack the printed resin and destroy the element. At the end go over the whole cockpit with flat varnish, which makes the edges of the decals disappear. Fit the panels before the fuselage is closed, as later they would be harder to reach.
