The SPACE line from the Czech manufacturer Eduard works on a somewhat different principle from classic photo-etched sets. Instead of thin metal sheet that has to be folded and painted, the modeler gets film elements with a raised relief, printed in color straight onto a backing paper. The element is lifted off the paper and transferred onto the corresponding surface in the model; the result is a legible instrument panel and other interior detail without brush-painting tiny dials. This is an accessory for a model of the Mi-24V helicopter in 1:48, not a kit. The exact make-up of the package is printed on the packaging of the set.
The Mil Mi-24 is a Soviet combat helicopter that combines the role of an attack machine with that of a carrier for a small assault party. The Mi-24V version is one of the most widespread; it has separate tandem cockpits for the pilot and the operator with distinctive rounded canopies, and short stub wings with pylons for external loads. The machine is typified by its massive fuselage, two turboshaft engines above it and a retractable landing gear.
The elements have no adhesive layer of their own. Dampen only the backing paper under the part with a moist sponge and a drop of detergent, lift the element off with tweezers after a moment and fix it with PVA glue (white glue); the manufacturer does not recommend cyanoacrylate glue. Do not use a decal softener, as the chemicals would attack the printed layer. The surface must be clean, smooth and degreased, and the panels should be pressed down with a soft rubber tip or a cotton bud so that they seat over their whole area. Paint the surrounding parts of the interior and let them dry completely before you use the set, and check in advance that the surfaces in your particular kit match the dimensions of the set.
