The Armycast resin set in 1:48 scale brings a ventral auxiliary fuel tank RP 62 of 1300 liters, of the kind carried by the Mirage III E, Mirage IIIO, Mirage 5 and the Israeli Nesher. This is not an airplane model, but an accessory that is fitted to a kit already built. A resin casting can manage sharper shapes and finer surface detail than injection-molded plastic allows, which is why it is used to replace the simplified external stores from a base kit.
The delta-wing Mirage III and the Mirage 5 and Nesher versions derived from it had limited range without external stores, so drop tanks became a practically permanent part of their operating configuration. A large-volume tank carried under the fuselage extended endurance on transit flights and on patrols, and did so without taking up the underwing pylons. Machines rigged in exactly this way are the most common in period photographs, so a model without external stores looks unusually bare.
First wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent, so no mold release agent is left on the surface; without that the paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a cutting disc, trim with a scalpel and level the surface with abrasive paper. Sand the resin wet and with respiratory protection. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate); where you need more time to set the part in position, a two-part epoxy works well. Apply a filler primer before painting, to unify the surface of the resin with the surrounding plastic. Paint the tank at the same time as the fuselage, so the shades match, and keep the weathering subdued, because external stores tended to be kept in good order.
This is an accessory set, not an airplane model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
