The R-60 missile with a twin launch rail in 1:48 scale — a resin replica of the light Soviet air-to-air missiles on a twin launch rail from the Czech firm Plus Model.
Responsibility details are not available.
This accessory set from the Czech manufacturer Plus Model brings a resin replica of the Soviet R-60 air-to-air missile on a twin launch rail in 1:48 scale. The set is not a model of an aircraft; it serves to arm a model of a fighter and as an effective detail that catches the eye at once on a pylon under a wing.
The light R-60 missile (AA-8 Aphid in the NATO reporting system) was a weapon for a turning fight at close quarters: small, nimble, with infrared homing. It was precisely its low weight that made it possible to hang the missiles in pairs; a twin rail carried two missiles side by side on a single hardpoint and so doubled the firepower of a machine without taking up further pylons. This arrangement was typical above all of the MiG-23, but it was also to be seen on other Soviet types from the MiG-21 to the Su-17.
Wash the resin parts free of the mold release agent and handle the fine control surfaces of the missiles carefully, as resin is more brittle than plastic. Glue the assembly with cyanoacrylate glue and take care over the alignment of both missiles on the rail. Paint according to period photographs; the combination of the light bodies of the missiles and the darker rail looks very faithful, and a wash will add depth.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
