MQM-74A Chukar Target Drone 1:48 is a small kit of an American jet-powered training target. The parts are made by 3D printing.
Responsibility details are not available.
The kit captures the unmanned target that served to train air defense crews, and a triangular launch stand goes with it. The parts were made by 3D printing, so this is a set for modelers who have already worked with printed or resin castings. The decals cover American, British and Israeli markings.
At the start of the 1960s the US Navy was looking for a small jet target for gunnery and missile practice. Northrop Ventura answered with the NV-105 type, followed by a version with a straight wing. Production for the Navy ran from 1968 under the designation MQM-74A. The target was launched from a ground or shipboard stand with a booster and came back on a parachute once its task was done, so that it could be used again. Besides American units it was used by the Royal Navy, other NATO countries and the Israeli Air Force.
Wipe the print marks away with fine sanding paper wetted in water, checking the thin areas against the light as you go. Cyanoacrylate glue holds the joints and also serves to fix the model to the stand. The striking signal color of the target comes out best on a perfectly smooth surface, so degrease it carefully and lay a thin primer down before spraying.
The set arrives as printed parts ready to be cleaned up and assembled; painting is left to the modeler.
