1:48 North-American P-51B/P-51C Mustang framed canopy - Eduard painting masks for spraying the frames of the original Mustang canopy cleanly in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set of painting masks from the Czech brand Eduard takes care of the most laborious part of painting a Mustang - the frames of the cockpit canopy. The term framed canopy refers to the original factory glazing made up of several panes with pronounced frames, which on a model in 1:48 scale are very hard to outline by hand. With the masks you simply spray the frames along with the camouflage and the clear areas stay perfectly clean. For machines retrofitted with the bulged Malcolm Hood the manufacturer offers a separate set, so choose according to the form of the cockpit you are building.
The P-51B and P-51C were the first production Mustangs with the license-built Packard V-1650 Merlin engine, thanks to which the aircraft excelled at exactly the altitudes where the fighting over Germany took place. Both versions were technically identical and differed mainly in the plant in which they were built. From the turn of 1943 and 1944 they escorted the heavy bombers of the American Eighth Air Force all the way to the target and back, which fundamentally changed the course of the daylight air offensive over Europe. The fuselage with its spine behind the cockpit gives these versions the characteristic silhouette known as razorback.
Lay the masks onto a clean, dry surface and let their edges seat perfectly, so that paint cannot creep underneath. Spray light coats and peel the masks off slowly, ideally shortly after the last coat has dried - the edges then stay crisp.
