Resin exhausts for kits of the Lockheed P-38 Lightning in the F and G versions in 1:48 scale from the Quickboost range of the Czech maker Aires. The castings offer crisper edges and a truer shape than the injection-molded parts from a kit and are designed as a direct replacement - with no photo-etch and no complicated work.
The Lockheed P-38 Lightning was an American twin-engine fighter characterized by a twin-boom layout with a central nacelle for the pilot. It was powered by two Allison V-1710 engines with turbochargers mounted on the tops of the tail booms; the exhaust ducting to them was among the prominent details of the powerplant. The F and G versions fought from 1942 in Europe, North Africa and the Pacific, where the Lightning became famous for its long range and the heavy armament concentrated in the nose.
Wash the parts before use in warm soapy water, separate them from the casting blocks with a fine saw or a sharp blade and sand the cut mark down lightly - protect your airways while sanding resin. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). The exhausts come out well when painted in shades of burnt metal and rust, completed with a fine pigment; you can fit them only after the camouflage of the surrounding areas is finished.
This is an accessory, not a model in its own right. It is supplied unpainted; the basic kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
