A small accessory for figures in 1:72 scale, not a figure on its own and not a model kit. The set renders the British Mk I pattern steel helmet, that is the typical shallow shell with a wide brim all the way round. It serves to let the modeler add or replace the headgear on figures in British and Allied dress.
The British steel helmet with its wide brim was introduced during the First World War and became one of the most easily recognized items of British and Allied kit. Its shape came from the requirement to protect against shrapnel falling from above, hence the shallow bowl-shaped shell and the horizontally drawn-out rim. The helmet kept its basic outline in later versions too, which differed mainly in the internal fittings and the chinstrap. It was used by British units and by the armies of the Commonwealth countries.
If the figure has a helmet of its own, cut it off with a scalpel and level the crown of the head with a file so that the new helmet seats with no gap. Try the part dry and watch the angle of the brim in relation to the face, because that is exactly what gives the figure the right expression. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue and fill any gaps around the rim with a thin strip of two-part putty. The chinstrap is usually only suggested with paint in 1:72. Before painting, spray the whole thing with a base color, paint the helmet in the green or brownish shade you choose, brighten the edges of the brim with a fine dry brush and run a dark wash under the brim to create a shadow above the face.
The accessory is supplied unpainted. Glue, paints and the figure itself are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
