Decals in 1:48 for two early machines of the G version from New Guinea, aircraft 43-2384 of the 80th Fighter Squadron and the example with the number 99 called Beautiful Lass.

Both machines offered are G versions, that is a substantially older form than the late aircraft from the other sheets of this line. The aircraft with serial number 43-2384 and the tactical letter I served with the 80th Fighter Squadron of the 8th Fighter Group and is set in the surroundings of the Dobodura base in New Guinea in 1943. The second subject, 43-2204 with the number 99 and the name Beautiful Lass, belonged to the 9th Fighter Squadron of the 49th Fighter Group.
The G version differs from later machines in the arrangement of the radiators and in the shape of the cockpit and still carried an overall olive green finish. It was precisely against it that the white tactical markings and the names crews had painted on the nose of the central nacelle stood out. Dobodura was at that time a key strongpoint of the Allies and escort missions deep over enemy territory took off from it.
A matte olive finish does decals no good, so it is necessary to lay a glossy intermediate layer under them. Once the markings are dry the model is gone over with matte varnish, which evens the difference in sheen out and swallows the film entirely. The work is made easier by dividing the more extensive markings into two parts and applying them gradually, especially on the rounded sides of the nacelle.
The package is made up of a single printed sheet, and the modeler provides the rest of the material for the build. Given that this is an early version, it is advisable to choose a kit of precisely this variant. Anyone who already has the late machines of this line built gains with this set a counterpart from the beginning of the fighting in the region.
