The Basic Line range rests on fine parts that injection-molded plastic cannot capture in scale thickness, typically the cockpit equipment and the small items that are most in view on a finished model. The exact composition differs between individual sets of this range according to the real subject.
The Lockheed P-38 Lightning was a twin-engined fighter with an unusual twin-boom structure and a central nacelle for the pilot and the armament. It was powered by a pair of liquid-cooled Allison V-1710 V12 engines with turbochargers, which gave it good performance even at great altitudes. The J version brought reworked cooling with intercoolers built into the leading edges of the engine nacelles, so it has a markedly deeper forward part of the nacelles than the older series. The airplane proved itself as a fighter, as a bomber escort and as a photo-reconnaissance machine.
Work over a surface with a raised edge so that the small parts do not escape you. The fabric items only need to be curved between your fingers and seated so that they stand straight in the air nowhere, because a natural sag is what sets a well made interior apart. Cut the photo-etched parts off with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, deburr them with a file and bend them in a photo-etch bending tool or between steel rulers; degrease the metal and cover it with a primer before painting. If masks are part of the set, stick them on with tweezers, press the edges down properly and take them off before the paint has fully cured.
The set is an accessory for a plastic kit, not a standalone model. The kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
