A detailed add-on cockpit set for the American fighter North American P-51B Mustang in 1:48 scale. The set is made by direct 3D printing in resin and is intended for the early version with the framed birdcage canopy. It replaces the plastic interior with a richly detailed cockpit completed by decals and pre-painted photo-etched parts, for example the belts and the instrument panel. It is not a model of the aircraft in its own right but an upgrade for a kit.
The cockpit is clearly visible on the model, especially under a clear canopy. 3D printing captures the fine detail of the tub, the seat and the side consoles, and the pre-painted photo-etch speeds the build up and raises the realism. The set suits modelers who want a first-class interior without lengthy detailing.
Wash the print resin residue off the parts and separate them from the print supports. Glue them with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) and bend the fine photo-etched parts accurately. Paint the Mustang interior in shades of interior green, pick out the instruments and levers and add a wash.
