Dots of a uniform diameter scattered over the hull represent one of the forms of German camouflage from the last year of the war. Over the base dark yellow area and the sprayed patches of a green and a brown tone came circles of the opposite color, whose task was to break up the outline of a machine standing under trees when seen from a distance. This set keeps one size for all the circles, which gives the result a more regular and stricter character.
In 1:48 scale the individual circles have a diameter of around one millimeter and painting them by hand is practically impossible. A brush at this size will create shapeless blots rather than anything else, and even an experienced modeler ends up with an irregular grid. Cut film is therefore even more useful in the smaller sizes than on large ground models, where one could improvise.
It is not a later invention: machines treated this way are documented in pictures from the Ardennes and from the fighting in the east, and several examples have survived in museum collections. The spacing and the density of the circles varied, though, because the application was done by field workshops at their own discretion and with no uniform pattern.
The circles are the last layer, so they come only onto finished and thoroughly dried multicolor camouflage. Before removing them, let the paint harden really well, because the small cut-outs are peeled off one at a time and in a hurry you easily tear away what is meant to stay. Use pointed tweezers or a needle pushed in for the removal, not a fingernail.
The set deals exclusively with this layer of the surface finish. Coating materials and a model do not belong in the shipment.
