1:48 Paint Masks For Tiger Meet 2010 Panavia Tornado ECR Lego Bomber traces out the colorful block finish of the German Tornado from the 2010 Tiger Meet.
Responsibility details are not available.
Two sheets of stencils carry one of the most striking ceremonial schemes a Tornado ever received. The finish consists of rectangular color fields stacked side by side like building blocks, which is where the nickname that stuck to the machine comes from. Precisely because it is all straight edges and right angles, pre-cut film is a far more reliable route than measuring by hand.
The Tiger Meet is a traditional event to which units with a big cat in their badge send machines in a special finish. The 2010 edition was hosted by the Dutch base at Volkel, and the German side sent a Tornado in the ECR version, that is, in the specialized form intended for suppressing enemy radar. The block pattern followed on from the unit's motto about digital tigers and among the photographers it immediately became the star of the whole event.
With a multicolor pattern the order decides. Plan it in advance from the lightest fields to the darkest and let the finish cure thoroughly between rounds, as otherwise the film from the previous layer will tear the paint away. Press the edges of the fields down at the panel seams as well, where the finish most likes to get in. Because the fields repeat along the whole length of the fuselage, check continuously that they carry over and that a whole row has not shifted anywhere.
