Panther and Jagdpanther Ausf. G photo-etched Schürzen 1:48 from the Czech maker Hauler bring the side armor skirts and their brackets in a faithful thickness.
Responsibility details are not available.
A photo-etched set of the side armor skirts, in German Schürzen, for models of the Panther Ausf. G medium tank and the Jagdpanther tank destroyer in 1:48 scale. The set is cut for the Tamiya plastic kit and it is an accessory that mounts on a finished hull.
The skirts were thin steel plates hung on brackets along the hull. They protected the sides above the running gear, above all against anti-tank rifle rounds. They took a beating in service, so they commonly bent, worked loose and got lost in the field; vehicles therefore often ran with only part of the set. A model with several plates missing or buckled looks considerably livelier than one with a perfectly even row.
The plates and the brackets are long and thin, so it is essential to work on a hard flat surface and to make the bends in a bender rather than with your fingers. Apply super glue in drops with a pin and let the assembly cure before you move it onto the model. Degrease the brass with alcohol and spray it with primer. When painting, bring out the lower edges of the plates in a lighter shade and add wear; the space behind the skirts calls for far more dust and mud than the rest of the hull, because it was picked up off the running gear.
This is an accessory, not a kit in its own right. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
