The set holds no parts of the model - it is a stand-alone accessory applied only to a finished and painted surface. The Petlyakov Pe-2 was an all-metal twin-engined aircraft with a slender fuselage, twin rudders and a crew divided between separate compartments. It was built in a long run of production batches, which differed from one another in the shape of the canopy, the engine nacelles and the details of the armament. For a modeler that means the markings and the shape of a particular machine are connected - before placing a decal, check against your own documentation that the version you are building matches.
The surface matters more than the printing itself. First go over the model with a gloss clear varnish - on a matte surface air is trapped under the carrier film and a silvered edge forms around the motif. Cut the decal off closely to the printing, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and leave it to stand until it begins to slide on the paper. Place it with a damp brush, blot the surplus water away with a paper tissue and, if need be, use a softener so the film draws down to the engraved lines. Once completely dry, wash the adhesive residues off the surface and seal the whole model with a matte or semi-gloss varnish, which blends the decal with the rest of the paintwork.
The package holds decals only. The model, the paints, the varnishes and the softener are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
