The Petlyakov Pe-2 was a twin-engine combat aircraft of Soviet design, used during the Second World War above all in the role of a dive bomber. It was an all-metal low-wing monoplane with twin vertical tails and a fairly slender fuselage, built in large numbers and in several production batches that differed from one another in detail. On this type the landing gear wheels are among the clearly visible features, because the model is usually built with the gear extended and the whole weight of the finished build stands on them.

Building tips

Separate the parts carefully from the casting block and sand the flat back with fine abrasive paper wet and with respiratory protection. Wash the wheels in lukewarm water with detergent before painting and let them dry, otherwise the paint will not hold on them. If the wheels have a flattening marked on them, watch the orientation while gluing so that the model stands level. The tire and the hub are more convenient to paint separately and to join only at the end. The wheels are bonded with cyanoacrylate glue; ordinary cement for polystyrene does not work here.
